Such wonder and surprise in the program of recovery for the beginner.
" I don't deserve it! "
We all feel that way yet with Grace, God provides recovery for us "IF" we stay willing. Willing to follow THEE way instead of my way.
Let's face it.... it has been a long long time for most of us since we have done anything really good for ourselves and talk of God is at the very least foreign to us. Oh.. we may have claimed God, but what we have done to ourselves shouts much louder than anything we can say. A slow suicide over many years.... too strong?
Think again!
So how can I really connect with my God?....Simple
STAY sober and clean within the circles of recovery or small groups. Connecting spiritually at the outset can seem difficult. Know this however... "God" does most of the work if you can but let go of the addiction problem. Its been a while, maybe years, maybe decades since you have truley connected. Easy does it, if you have too much difficulty, try believing in something you can see for a while... all the others with you - making it in the rooms of recovery. Place your faith in your recovery group if need be. They are there for you! Yes it's true....some are sicker than others, but if you use the rooms as they are intended, which is as a classroom, not a dating service or a bank, you will be just fine.
As you attend DAILY meeting, ( How often did you drink or use?) look for someone who has something you want at your home group.( You do have a home group don't you?) Ask them to be your sponsor. ( Remember guys with guys , girls with girls - trust us when we say you do not need to roll out your tale of hopelessness on some co-dependent of the opposite sex who wants to " HELP!" YIKES ) If your new prospective sponsor says NO ask someone else ( It's not personal ) Ask your sponsor to help you start taking the steps right away, after all the steps ARE the program of recovery.
The steps are so simple.. it works like this ... The sooner you get on your way, the sooner you will leave that misery behind... so get moving.
If you have stopped moving, get moving again!
