Don't stop at the end of the third step!
At this point in your program we think it is important to discuss the fear thing. Many who come into the program decide, just about now, that the first three steps can keep them sober.....Wrong!. People that stop here don’t do well. There are 12 steps in recovery and it was suggested to us to do all 12 thoroughly and in order. The reason you have stopped here is because you are afraid of what lies ahead....the moral inventory, or if you like, possibly the first time you have been honest with yourself for a long long time. The reason you need to go on is because you need to develop this new manner of living!
For the alcoholic / addict really looking at yourself and who you are and where you have been can be difficult! We have known many over the years who have just completed the first three steps then they put the old will power back in 1st gear. We can tell you... that does not work. These unfortunates spend the rest of their lives discontent, for the recovery they seek has eluded them once again.
If you are looking for the true joy of recovery you MUST complete the program of recovery. We are here to tell you that there is "nothing to fear, but fear itself." Stay willing! Keep moving forward in the program. The rewards are great!
Remember when you said you would go to any length.... Well?
You have already turned your life over to the care of God. Trust him! He will not let you down. Have faith! Believe that we believe! If all else fails you can always do what my old friend Benny said... "Fake it till ya make it" God really does not care how you get there as long as you do! He loves you and with an honest heart felt sincere effort you will always receive his glorious gift of Grace...
ALWAYS!
