As it is we are all born in original sin. This means ALL of us without exception so you truly are not alone!
In addiction it manifest as a compulsion to sin. We are compelled to sin. We can’t drink or use enough whether it be drugs, food, people or destructive behaviors. Speaking with a friend the other day, he explained how when he was in the depths of his addiction he wanted to write a book about compulsion. This is the sin nature that we all have been born into through the fall of the first man.. Adam.
As a result, we are ALL under the jurisdiction of sin or satin until…
Think about this… What else would explain our unrelenting desire for sin or self will run riot. It certainly never really felt like who we were. Would you actually believe that you have been brought here just to destroy yourself? We think not! As they say in addiction " We did this to ourselves" that is.. the first man did.
The proof that our "man made" sin nature is true, is that after so many years or decades of doing things our way ( literally killing ourselves anonymously ) our help comes immediately AFTER we surrender to God (just as it is outlined in the bible). With a sincere heart and acknowledgement of our sins, or if you like our mistakes, we ask for the life giving power of salvation. The moment we confess our faults to Him and ask Him for help, the solution that has evaded us for soooooo many years arrives.
WOW!
Think about it. Is this not exactly what happened to you?
Staying on track seems to just be a matter of letting go on a daily basis and allowing God to take over again and again just as we did the first time.
The really incredible part of this story is that after so many years of denying Christ in our lives as soon as we Ask with no other motive than to be loved, we receive. ( Ask and you shall receive .. For us in addiction it should read … ask honestly and you shall receive ) I guess that’s what that Godly unconditional love thing is all about.
Some one explained to us that God does not love… GOD IS LOVE. That’s why we get what we need instead of what we want… because we are now under his perfect law of justice.
Amen.
